Aloe maculata (Soap Aloe, Zebra Aloe) plant

$8.00

Aloe maculata (Soap Aloe, Zebra Aloe) plant

4 inch container, ready for transplant.

Family:  (Aloe Asphodelacea)

Hardy to Zone 9 to 12, but normally grown as a potted plant indoors or on the summer patio

(Soap Aloe, Zebra Aloe) Broad-leaved succulent widely distributed throughout South Africa. This plant has the distinction of not needing a well-drained soil–It will even grow in wet soils.

Small to medium-sized, the flat, succulent leaves are covered with h-shaped spots, rimmed by soft spines.  These grow quickly and become show-plants within a few years. Eventually, these pretty plants will make a short trunk, giving rise to branched stalked topped by outsized pom-poms of orange or red.  Locals use the sap as soap.
